Remember the Blue-Black vs Gold-White dress picture debate that went viral a few years ago? The fact that so many people were sure that it was gold-white colored when it was actually blue-black goes to show that our eyes often cause us to see something that isn’t there. Well, it turns out there are many examples of our eyes playing tricks on us. Here are some of them!
Happy Giant Chin Cowboy
This one is very imaginative and interesting. Because of the car’s shape, when it’s super bright outside, its shadow forms a silhouette of a face of a cowboy.
The front of the car along with the looking glass looks like the hat of the cowboy, and when you gradually go down, you can see his forehead, eyes, nose, slightly open mouth, and his enormous chin. This giant chinned cowboy would probably make Woody from Toy Story feel proud of his big chin!
Long Armed Waiter
These types of pictures will surely make you look twice. The waiter in the background is standing pretty far away from the seat, but it appears that his arm extends up to her roommate’s seat.
However, look closer, and you’ll see that that’s actually her roommate’s arm itself. The waiter’s arm and her arm are aligned in such a way that it looks like that waiter could be ElastiGirl or Mr. Fantastic!
Nutella Mane Zebra
This cute Zebra shaped cookie dipped in some Nutella looks pretty yummy. The way the Nutella is spread on the cookie makes it look a lot like a horse’s mane. It seems like if a horse and a zebra had a baby, it would probably look like this.
We must admit, that sure is a pretty beautiful hairdo. The Nutella hair this zebra has makes it look so fabulous that it makes us jealous of its style.
Pear or Banana?
Pears are generally – well – pear-shaped. Ever seen a pear that is really long, though? Well, this particular one ap-pears (pun intended) to be very slender and as long as a big banana.
As a matter of fact, anyone can mistake this pear for a banana at first glance or maybe as a small gourd. Seeing this makes us wonder, are there any other oddly shaped fruit that resembles other fruits in the world?
Call the Fashion Police
Some designers just go crazy when designing sneakers and shoes. This one that you can see has a certain design that, at first glance, makes it look like the guy is wearing socks with a pair of black slippers.
However, look again, and it appears to be just a pair of poorly designed sneakers. Although he’s not actually wearing socks with sandals, this guy needs to be arrested by the fashion police for wearing such terrible looking sneakers.
Teeth on Fingers
This person has placed his finger against a mirror in a way that the lines on his fingers look like mini-sized teeth. It makes us picture a mini-sized monster with teeth in a children’s horror cartoon.
That is a pretty good idea for a monster, isn’t it? If any cartoon writers are reading this, we’re open to being hired! Jokes aside, we had to look closely at the reflection of his finger to notice the supposed teeth.
Two Headed Cerberus
Oh, these two aren’t Siamese twins? We thought this person had the Greek Mythological creature, Cerberus, as a pet (with two heads instead of three), but it turns out, these are two separate dogs that are sitting in a way that looks like they share the same body.
The owners thought their dogs had merged into one with some kind of fusion ritual. Separate or merged, that doesn’t matter – look at how cute these good boys look! We’d still pet these good boys if they were creepily merged.
Bad Video Game Graphics
This isn’t a screenshot from GTA San Andreas, as we initially thought. Anyone could be fooled into thinking this is a video game screenshot, though. However, that is far from the truth.
This is a photo from Hawaii taken at a moment when the sun was directly overhead and created little to no shadows, which made the place look like a poorly rendered video game scene. This proves how important lighting is for a picture to look real.
Van of Pies
Wait, wait! Don’t leave yet, we’re coming to get some pies…wait, what? That’s inside the shop? It’s so fascinating how the reflection of the shelves of pies fall exactly where you can see the car on the shop’s window.
This mirage makes it look like the car actually sells those pies off the boot, and it just came with new warm pies for everyone to indulge in. The truth is those are just inside the coffee shop.
Legs on Top
It took us a moment to notice what her sister-in-law saw because all we saw was the woman’s legs on top of her husband’s shoulders. These pictures sure do make you look twice, or in our case, multiple times.
The part that looks like the woman’s legs is actually the husband’s arms holding her. The man is wearing a white shirt with a grey and white vest, which makes it look like that is the woman’s legs clinging on to him.
Giant Broccoli
Did someone invent a gigantify-inator (Phineas and Ferb reference)? There’s no way that is a regular tree! That just has to be a broccoli that was grown using some out of this world technology and made into a giant broccoli.
However, we wish those kinds of shenanigans were possible! This is actually a tree that merely resembles a broccoli – and looks pretty delicious. Yes, broccoli is delicious, and anyone who disagrees hasn’t ever had good broccoli.
Dog or Log?
“For my next trick, I will cut this dog’s body in two halves without injuring it. Abracadabra!” – This looks not very different from a magician’s tricks in a magic show, but wait! Look again. The dog is just resting on the ground freely and the part behind him is just a log that’s sitting there.
No good boys were harmed while pulling off this trick, and no magicians were involved either. The dog is just chilling there by itself and possibly posing for the photo as well.
Selfie Queen Monkey
Judging from the saying “monkey see, monkey do,” we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a monkey taking a selfie using a smartphone, especially in 2020. While that is very much possible and might have occurred in some instances, this monkey is not actually holding the phone.
This person was trying to take a picture of the monkey, and the reflection made it look like the monkey was taking a selfie that could potentially break the internet because of how sensational it looks!
Judgmental Glasses
Say hello to the judgmental pair of glasses! It is silently judging you (and us) for thinking it has eyeballs. The light from the lamp is falling on the glasses in such a way that it looks like the glasses have eyeballs behind them, and because of the way those eyeballs are positioned, it looks like a very judgmental glare.
This could actually qualify for a sick Halloween decoration! So, for anyone willing to try this, don’t forget to give us credit for the idea!
Flaming Leaves
Technically, those leave ARE on fire. Hear us out! Sunlight is basically fire, so that would mean the leaves actually are on fire. No? We’re just messing with you with our dumb logic. Those leaves do look like they are actually on fire due to the way the sunlight falls right on the edges of the leaves.
It looks as if the leaves are slowly burning from the bottom, leading up to the burning of the whole tree, but rest assured, that is just a harmless optical illusion.
Confusing Bike Wheel
Someone call Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender to explain this, please! The cycle wheel is clearly broken and bent, but the reflection says otherwise. It’s like a mirror dimension in the water where reality is slightly different from ours.
While all that sounds fun and all, water actually has strange reflecting and refracting abilities that go beyond regular physics. You may have a bent tire, but the reflection in the water might make it seem like everything is just fine.
Dwarf Army
We are back with water doing some crazy illusions and making our heads hurt. Look at these tiny dwarfish soldiers going for a mini-sized war! While they look adorable due to the illusion, this is actually part of training to stand under cold water.
The picture we can see here is probably from a drill that is going on, and water using its strange refractive nature makes the soldiers’ legs look tiny and makes them appear shrunk.
Chandelier in the Sky
This picture makes us wonder how nice it would be if there was a chandelier hanging from the sky. We think it would be really beautiful and aesthetic just like this picture. Unfortunately, this is just a hologram of the light in the room’s chandelier that is seen on the window of the house.
It makes it look like the chandelier is actually hanging from the sky. Or, maybe this is just a wallpaper with abstract art. Which one is it?
Floating Dog Head
This one is terribly confusing and kind of scary. The dog looks like it only has a head that is floating mid-air. Apparently, this person’s friend’s dog leaped over grates and it makes it look like her legs disappeared.
We don’t understand how that is even possible, but who are we to judge? We have already seen some crazy illusions in this article, and this is not that different from those.
Camel Head
We are going to assume this picture was either taken using slow exposure mode or the camel is standing in such a way that we cannot see the rest of its body. Nonetheless, it looks like the camel has no head, and the guy is holding its head, but that is not at all what is happening here.
He surely is grabbing the camel’s head, but it is probably standing in a certain way that makes it hard to see its body.
Aesthetic Drop Pattern Floor
Does this pattern not make you fear that you would fall into a bottomless pit if you go past the part where it starts? The artist that designed this floor must have either wanted to be very creative or just hated people and wanted them to suffer from a bit of fear of falling when looking at the patterns.
Either way, it’s pretty fascinating and makes you look again to ensure that it’s not actually a steep surface but a pattern on the floor creating an illusion.
The Black Hole
One of the downsides of owning a black cat is that it has the power to transform itself into a black hole at will. While it won’t suck you inside it, it will suck the life out of you with the jump scare you might get from seeing such a thing all of a sudden.
This happened because the cat was lying on the bed in such a way that it formed a near perfect circle that resembles a black hole.
Cruise Ship at Coal Harbor
This is another example of coincidental perfect alignment. This cruise ship was passing when it was perfectly aligned with the coal harbor pillars. It makes it look like the ship is placed on top of the pillars, and that people could pass under it while walking or driving through the bridge.
However, it is an optical illusion that is created due to this perfectly timed photo that made the two pillars align with the cruise ship.
Buff Cat
That’s one pretty muscular cat you got there! This person’s fiancé took a picture of their cat in a certain way that makes the cat’s arm look like it is about to go into a brawl with someone.
For some reason you can’t see the rest of its body. So, that makes it look like the cat has a head, a portion of a body, and an enormous and muscular looking arm.
Godzilla Bug Monster
We have yet another contender for perfectly aligned photos due to perfect timing. This little bug appears to be gigantic due to the way it is positioned. It looks like the bug is trying to climb that big building and terrorize everyone with its enormous size.
However, it is just on the window of the building the picture is taken from and the bug is just perfectly aligned with the building across the street.
Invisible Building
Does this building have a cloaking device in it? Are they using some kind of technology that we are yet to get access to? No, they are using regular mirrored glass on their building.
The angle the picture is taken from and the lighting of it makes the building look as though it almost disappeared. That is so cool! This goes to show what amazing things perfect lighting and angling can do to your photos.
Not a Beach
Are you telling us this is not a drone shot from above a beach in Thailand? This is almost unbelievable! This person took a photo of a puddle when he was in Iceland at the Geysir National Park, and the end result will leave you amused!
How can a little puddle look like an aerial view of a beach? Well, this photo answers that question. It looks just like the photos you see of famous beaches on various travel websites.
Lint Soldier
This one is super interesting and makes our imaginative side of the brain go haywire! This piece of lint looks like it is a soldier who is wielding a weapon and is trying very hard to wade through water.
Although it is only a piece of lint on a window sill, when you use your imagination it becomes something completely else. However, we cannot see anything but a soldier with a weapon.
Pig Legs
Carousels have always been one of the most fun amusement park rides of all time. We don’t blame this fully grown man for riding a children’s ride.
However, the way he has his jacket tied to his waist and his legs are not visible in the picture make it look like he has little pig legs that are floating. This is pretty funny, and every time we look at it, we can’t stop laughing!
Glowing Castle in Coffee
For a second we thought that was a very professionally carved sugar cube that looks like a glowing castle, but that is just a beautiful reflection of the light above this person’s head that fell on the coffee.
This amazing reflection also looks like a neon object that glows in the dark. It is truly fascinating how a reflection of a light source on a cup of coffee can look so aesthetically pleasing!

This person was baking cookies and was preparing the cookie dough by placing it on the tray. Because of the way it was placed, the reflection of the tray and the little balls of dough on the metal bowl kept right beside it look like a huge chocolate chip cookie.ADVERTISEMENT

These are indeed real legs with white paint on them stroked in a way that it makes the legs look highlighted and shiny. This is truly a work of art (pun intended).

It is only because of the perspective of the picture that the grasshopper looks so big. We must applaud the photographer’s timing, as it is the timing and alignment of the picture that make it so impressive.

All these reflection illusions are making us question our reality. It is so incredibly fascinating how this person’s phone becomes almost invisible inside this cup holder. If you couldn’t see the top part, you wouldn’t be able to tell there was any phone inside that cup holder to begin with.
